Welcome to the 32nd Annual Wild Hog Canoe & Kayak Race

You are invited to compete in the 32nd Annual Wild Hog Canoe & Kayak Race on Saturday, April 25, 2009. This race has been hosted by AMVETS Post 88 for four years now and the monies raised go to help the Levy Association for Retarded Citizens (LARC) in Otter Creek.

Registration
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on State Rd 24 at the Waccasassa Bridge and ends promptly at 10:00 a.m. NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE TAKEN AFTER 10:00 a.m. Racers will start at 8:00 a.m. Our optional weather date is Saturday, May 2. Watch for posted signs on the highway! It's really helpful if you PRE-REGISTER for the race as our staff is needed at the finish line to assist with food, entertainment, ticket sales, photo shoot, etc.

*The race STARTS at State Road 24 at the Waccasassa Bridge, 2 miles east of Otter Creek. You will finish at U.S. Highway 19 at the Waccasassa Bridge, 6 miles south of Otter Creek.

Rules of the Wild Hog Canoe & Kayak Race

Please read as there are several changes to the rules for 2009

  • All racers must have PFDs (personal flotation devices) on board and must be on board at the finish line to be official. No PFDs, No Race.
  • All boats and racers MUST cross over the last log in sight of finish line between ribbons to qualify. A five-minute penalty for each racer will be assessed for not crossing over the log. All racers, MUST BE in their boat when the boat crosses the finish line or you do NOT qualify.
  • All entrants MUST sign an insurance waiver. No one under 18 is allowed in the race.
  • All boats must remain in the water at all times; no shortcuts over land allowed.
  • Experienced boaters cannot compete in the Recreation class.
  • All kayaks MUST compete in the kayak class ONLY!
  • If you place in Recreation this next year, you must move up the following year.

NO ALCOHOL IN BOATS OR AT START OR FINISH LINE WHATSOEVER!


INFORMATION FOR ALL RACERS

PHOTOS
You and/or your team member will have an opportunity to have your photo taken by our photographer behind the “I Survived the Wild Hog Canoe & Kayak Race” Billboard for a nominal fee of $4.00 for a 4x6 photo. Photo(s) will be mailed so be sure to give correct address and phone number AND boat number to photographer on duty.

INSURANCE
Every racer MUST sign an insurance waiver. Please note:Pre-registering for the race helps to expedite your entry into the race.

WHAT DOES REGISTRATION COVER?
The registration fee covers your entry into the race, a free meal (wristband needed and turned in when ordering food), a race T-shirt and bottled water. If you are one of the lucky ones, you may win a paddle!

Please remember this is a Charity race and AMVETS Post 88 is a non-profit organization trying to raise monies to keep Levy ARC programs running another year for these valuable members of our community.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
After you unload your canoe/kayak, please check in or register at the Registration table, then drive your vehicle down to the finish line (see map for directions). A "special" parking area has been designated for boaters. You will be bussed back to the start of the race. *Do NOT leave your vehicle at the start line. We will not be responsible for bringing you back to the start line to get your vehicle.

Prizes (Paddles)
Paddles will be awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners in each category.
If the top three finishers can be determined without all racers finishing the race, the paddles will be distributed early to the winners
